Program Studi Sarjana Pendidikan Sains (in Indonesian Language) or the Undergraduate Program in Science Education (in short: UPSE) was officially established based on Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4905/D/T/2006 dated December 21, 2006. The UPSE is the ninth undergraduate program in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMNS), Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Therefore December 21, 2006 is the official founding date of the UPSE. The UPSE is conducted under the Department of Natural Sciences, FMNS Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The UPSE is supported by 25 lecturers/academic staffs, one laboratory assistant, and one administrative staff.
The UPSE is four-year undergraduate program. Type of the UPSE is full time study. The program is run five days a week from Monday to Friday, from 07.00 until 16.00 Western Indonesian Time. All academic activities take place in the Ketintang Campus, Surabaya, Indonesia. Lecturers are mostly given by the academic staffs and supported by some facilities such as whiteboards, LCD Projectors, lecture notes, Vinesa learning portal (https://vinesa.unesa.ac.id) and single sign on portal (https://sso.unesa.ac.id) for other academic and administrative matters in an integrated manner. The UPSE aims to produce graduates who have the competence and qualifications as teachers of science subjects in the Lower Secondary School or Junior High School, with additional abilities as managers of science laboratories, education managers, and have an ability to entrepreneurship.
In accordance with the University Academic Guidelines, the degree of the graduates is Sarjana Pendidikan or Bachelor of Education (abbreviated: S.Pd.). The degree is awarded after a student completes about at least 144 sks or credits (1 sks = 1.59 ECTS) consisting some compulsory and elective courses, designed for 8 semesters.
